Meet the Family

Yesterday, John, my parents and I went down to the shore house for a bbq with John's family. We got to share our exciting news with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. I think this baby is already loved. The first thing Ethan said  to bhe woke up this morning was, "I'm going to be a big cousin!" Christopher tells us he's ready to take the baby to 'crazy school.' I'm not sure what that is, but he seemed excited about it.

I wasn't as hungry yesterday as the day before, but that doesn't mean I didn't eat! Here's yesterday's food journal:

Breakfast - egg on whole wheat toast
Snack - fruit (strawberries, melon, cantaloupe, pineapple, grapes)
Lunch - toasted flatbread with pepper hummus
Dinner - veggie burger on a bun with vegetarian baked beans
Snack - half a veggie burger with a little more baked beans

I was tired yesterday too, so I went to sleep around 9:30 and woke up this morning around 8:00. It felt amazing!

Happy Memorial Day! We are off to visit our friends Pat and Meghan. Molly and Maggie are invited too since they have a great fenced-in backyard. So far today I've eaten:

Breakfast - fruit and a whoel grain bagel with light cream cheese
Snack - leftover whole wheat pizza (hangs head in shame) and a handful of almonds

I'm going to bring some fruit with me to their house so I'm not tempted by other tasty treats. At yesterday's bbq I resisted the most delicious looking chocolate cake. I hope the baby appreciates these sacrifices! :)

Back from Pat and Meg's - super fun afternoon. We played cornhole, which is basically a bean bag toss game and ate lunch. We also shared our great news... apparently we are horrible secret keepers! :)  Here's the rest of today's munchies:

Lunch - garden burger on a bun with lettuce and tomato; side of cucumber, onion, and tomato salad
Dessert - cherry Italian ice

I'm spending the rest of my night reviewing lesson plans and getting ready for the week. Peace!

First Grandparents Visit!

Yesterday my parents drove down from MA to visit. It is so wonderful to see them and to share in this amazing time. We went for breakfast and then mom and I went shopping while John and Dad worked on the house. Our shopping excursions of course led us to Babies R Us, and I don't feel nearly as overwhelmed in that store as I used to. It helps that so many of my friends have had children already. The first time I had to purchase a registry gift there I walked in and walked right out again! I've gotten much better now. :)

I know it's way too soon to look at baby "stuff" but we had fun looking anyway.

After, we came home and cut up the fruit for today's cookout at John's parents' house. I was surprised at how tired I was by the end and how my legs were hurting a little. After lunch mom and I went for a walk... I want to make sure to stay active throughout this pregnancy. Speaking of lunch, here was yesterday's food list. Waking up at 5 AM is bad, because it means you eat breakfast twice!

Breakfast #1: banana and natural peanut butter on whole wheat toast
Breakfast #2: egg beaters on english muffin and fruit cup
Snack: terra chips and apple
Lunch: romaine with cucumbers, tomatoes, and red kidney beans; half cup vegetarian chili
Dinner: Star Tavern pizza (I know, I know... but I did get the whole wheat crust at least!)

We're having a baby!

We're all friends here, so you'll excuse the fact that I peed on these.

Yesterday, John and I found out that we're expecting! Words cannot express the excitement and wonder I am feeling. We immediately called our parents to share in the news and celebrate with us. Since we're both only children, I think they were hoping and praying that we'd make them grandparents soon. :)

I could literally hear the amazement in my mom's voice. She is going to be such a great Vavo! My dad chimed in in the background (as usual) and even called me "Mommy-to-Be" when he called today. John's parents are also thrilled with our news and we know our child will be loved by these very special people. The baby is so blessed to call these four grandparents.

So tradition usually dictates that you wait until you're through the first trimester before telling other people about your pregnancy. Ha! John and I once opened presents 3 days before Christmas because we were so excited. There's no way we were keeping this a secret. By this evening, most of my mom's family knew, and I told my two cousins Wendy and Lauren. We'll tell John's family when we see them on Sunday at the shore house.

My plan for this blog is to keep track of my pregnancy, especially my nutrition and exercise. I plan to stay as healthy as possible and want to provide my baby with all the nutrients it needs to grow strong. This blog will serve as a food journal, as well as a place for me to record our progress with the nursery. I'm sure there'll be a few belly pics included too. Speaking of which... I should go take one!

Here's today's food journal:

Breakfast - almonds and an apple
Lunch - steamed veggies with brown rice; wonton chips
Snack - Greek yogurt
Dinner - mixed greens, avocado, grilled squash and zucchini

And here's my first belly pic:
Here's something I never knew... It is ridiculously difficult to take a picture of a profile of your stomach. Now you know... in case you should ever need to do that. ;)
